Great Recipe

11 May

SO… Today is Mother’s Day and I decided to cook my mom one of my favorite recipes: White Chili by Ellie Krieger (food network) This recipe is SIMPLE, QUICK, CHEAP and HEALTHY so I thought I would share the link with all of you too!

Its great for any time of year no matter what the season or tempurature and its one of those meals that you typically have almost all of the ingredients for. I just had to run out and grab some white beans and hominy today. It goes great with some cornbread as well (I use Trader Joe’s Cornbread Mix – Delicious!) Click on this link for the recipe http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ellie-krieger/white-chili-recipe/index.html

Portion Plates!

Portion

With obesity jumping off of the charts portion control is needed now more than ever. We all tend to over eat and stuff ourselves until it’s uncomfortable but this is a contributor for easy weight gain. Some creative designers have come up with an easy way to avoid this problem! Portion control dining sets have recently hit the shelves and are all the rage. Take a look at the blog that I read http://blog.healthyeats.com/blog/2009/03/03/portion-plates-and-bowls/?nl=EATS_030409_20

This is SUCH a great idea and an easy way to control how many calories you are taking in and how much of each of the food groups you are and should be eating. I wish I had thought of this myself!

Emergen-C vs. Airborne

26 Feb

Before my last trip home I decided that I was going to go and grab some Airborne and boost my immune system so as not to catch a cold during my visit and my flights. I started drinking a glass two days before I was to leave… but as I was sitting at my desk drinking it something tasted funny… I was trying to figure out what it was and after about an hour it came to me. Wait a minute! I know this taste! Its fake sugar! And sure enough I grabbed the bottle and read the ingredients. I was right.

I HATE fake sugar. I hate the taste it leaves in my mouth, I hate the links to cancer that it has (although the studies on fake sugars are “undetermined” I don’t want to take my chances), I just hate it. So, needless to say I poured out that glass and dumped the bottle. I did however check into the ingredients in Emergen-C, another supplement that I had used before as a daily vitamin option and it does not contain any fake sugars! Emergen-C does contain quite a bit of salt so if you are on a low sodium diet be sure to watch your intake on the days that you take Emergen-C. They also have come out with products for kids which is a great way to pump some vitamins into your little one. Here is the link to Emergen-C’s website www.emergenc.com . I think this is a great product and definitely the better, healthier option!
