Earth Day 2010 Reminder

21 Apr

“I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce. But you came and defiled my land and made my inheritance detestable.” -

Jeremiah 2:7

You can just go ahead and call me the Christian Hippy …

God calls us to be good stewards of the things that he has blessed us with – including the earth! Earth Day to me is not about “Mother Nature” it’s about recognizing God’s amazing creation. It’s about making an effort to spread awareness and the desire to take care of this once fertile land that he so freely gave us. I truly think that it saddens our God when he sees us being wasteful with energy, food, natural resources etc. We are a gluttonous people. We really have defiled his land and stripped it of its richness. Let’s treat every day as if it were Earth Day and love and respect this amazing ground that we were given in every way possible. Next time you go to throw that “only tiny piece of paper” out the car window, throw that can in the trash vs. recycle, leave your lights on when you leave the house and so on- think about it all as being a blessing from God that we cant just take advantage of. I encourage us all to be mindful of these abundant gifts. Someday… they may not be so abundant.

Saving on Groceries

9 Apr

Since moving back to Oklahoma my husband and I decided that I am going to continue working part time vs. finding a full time job. So I have started trying to find ways to save money around the house. I have been attempting to cut down my grocery bill 10 dollars a week. Seems like such a small amount but it’s easier said than done. I have started cutting coupons! A pain you say? Not when you watch that grocery bill drop 20 dollars as the cashier scans away! I signed up on www.coupons.com and I have been saving a ton of money each week!

I make my “menu” for the week and my grocery list and then log on to cut any coupons that apply to what I will be needing to cook. I suggest you check into the whole coupon world. But one rule: Don’t clip coupons for items that you don’t need or would not typically buy. That is where you get yourself into trouble and start spending more money!

Happy Easter!

3 Apr

While all of the candy and bunnies and colorful eggs are strewn about the next two days. While all of the family gatherings are going on and the yummy food is being cooked. While we are getting dressed up and primping our hair, I have to remind myself what this holiday is really all about! Our Lord and savior who died on the cross so that we could truly truly LIVE! What an amazing feeling to wake up and know that God is GOOD and that he is THERE no matter what. Enjoy your Easter everyone!

White-Chili_med

Its great for any time of year no matter what the season or tempurature and its one of those meals that you typically have almost all of the ingredients for. I just had to run out and grab some white beans and hominy today. It goes great with some cornbread as well (I use Trader Joe’s Cornbread Mix – Delicious!) Click on this link for the recipe http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ellie-krieger/white-chili-recipe/index.html

Moving – what a pain

16 Apr

I have neglected the site for the past..oh week or two and here is why:

I was moving half way across the country!

Packing boxes, changing addresses, closing accounts, tearful goodbyes… it was quite a whirlwind.

Stay tuned for more HumaNourish-ment as I get settled into my new life here in Sunny Southern California!

The Radio

3 Apr

Has anyone else ever noticed that ALLLLLLL of the radio stations do their commercial breaks at the same time in the morning?

I was driving to work this morning and I flipped between 9, COUNT THEM NINE, radio station settings and every single one was on a commercial break! What is this some sort of conspiracy with the broadcasting networks to force us to listen to advertisements?! Unreal. I dont care about the latest Downey product at 7 in the morning. I dont want to know what happened in the White House or what Paris Hilton is up to these days. If I did, I would watch the news and Access Hollywood before work.

Anyways, that is my rant for the week! Enjoy your day everyone!
